MTS Attendance Team Reminders

Dear Families of our Muckleshoot Early Childhood Education Programs and our K-12 Muckleshoot Tribal School:
We are all experiencing the impact and significant delays that have resulted from the closure of the White River Bridge (Buckley Bridge) which carries State Route 410 between Buckley and Enumclaw. Our Muckleshoot Department of Education staff members have been collaborating with our First Student drivers and administrators and have been investigating possible impacts on transporting students, especially after 3:00 p.m.
The challenges identified include:
• Normal first day of school delays such as students locating their correct buses, drivers learning new students and identifying correct drop off locations
• Continued construction delays on Auburn Way South east of Chinook Elementary School
• Extensive traffic delays due to the White River Bridge closure in Buckley
In order to proactively address these challenges, the Muckleshoot Department of Education and First Student have:
• Identified the buses and areas most likely impacted
• Identified buses that may be able to provide backup
• Reviewed and re-routed buses away from high-traffic roads whenever possible
• Created notifications to inform families of late running buses
• Identified school staff members to provide additional support to students and families affected by the White River Bridge closure
Even with our best efforts there will be times when buses will be late. By working together we can ensure students arrive safely home as quickly as possible. Here are some ways you can help:
• Please be patient
• Avoid driving through the area during the high volume traffic times
• Please plan ahead if your child has an after-school event you cannot miss
• Check your text messages from our Muckleshoot Department of Education Programs for timely communication about any traffic related delays that impact our bus routes
• If your child must be met at the stop, plan ahead to receive them which helps avoid further delays for other families
• Communicate early by calling Muckleshoot Tribal School Transportation (253) 261-1329 or Muckleshoot Head Start (253) 876-3056 if you are unable to meet your child due to the traffic
• Prepare your child by talking to them about the potential of late running buses
• Have a backup plan that includes another responsible person to meet your child
We are all partners in successfully navigating through the challenges that we face with the closure of the White River Bridge. We are all in this together and through pre-planning and communication we will get through this successfully.
Thank you very much for all of your continued support!
Sincerely,
Joseph
